The Party Committee of the College of Biotechnology Has Won Multiple Honors at the University's "Two Excellences and One Advanced" Commendation Conference!

Recently, our university grandly held the "Two Excellences and One Advanced" Commendation Conference at the University Student Activity Center on Hexi Campus. The conference announced the decision to recognize outstanding Communist Party members, outstanding Party workers, and advanced grassroots Party organizations. The College of Biotechnology has secured multiple honors in this commendation: the Party Committee of the College of Biotechnology was awarded the title of ‌Advanced Grassroots Party Organization‌; Comrades Zhang Chenglin and Xu Qingyang were honored as ‌Outstanding Communist Party Members‌; Comrades Guo Yan and Liu Yihan were recognized as ‌Outstanding Party Workers‌.

Advanced Grassroots Party Organization – The Party Committee of the College of Biotechnology

The Party Committee of the College of Biotechnology has given full play to its political function of steering direction and exercising overall leadership, delivering remarkable results in driving institutional development. The college has been named an ‌Advanced Collective of Tianjin's Education System‌, the Drug Design and Synthesis Laboratory has been awarded the ‌National March 8 Red Flag Collective‌, and 2 of its majors have been selected into the national first-class undergraduate major development program. In 2024, it became the first college among municipal universities to see its annual scientific research funding exceed 100 million yuan, and has maintained this milestone for two consecutive years. It supported the Light Industry Technology and Engineering discipline in being selected into the Tianjin Top Discipline Cultivation Plan, and added a new doctoral program in Biology and Medicine. The college has built the country's first ideological and political case library with light industry characteristics and a Tianjin science popularization base, with students winning more than 130 national-level competition awards.

Outstanding Communist Party Member – Xu Qingyang (Member of the College Party Committee, Chairman of the Trade Union)

Comrade Xu Qingyang has stayed true to the original aspiration of fostering virtue through education, and has been rooted in the front line of teaching and scientific research for over 20 years. He has shouldered heavy responsibilities and blazed new trails in scientific research, focusing on key areas such as strain construction for amino acids and nucleosides, and intelligent fermentation control. He has completed the development of more than 60 engineered strains (over 10 of which are at the international advanced level). He has facilitated the transfer of over 50 technological achievements in total, with contract funds exceeding 230 million yuan (13 projects valued at over 10 million yuan each), and has won 3 first prizes for provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress, providing critical technical support and intellectual property guarantees for the development of the industry.

Outstanding Communist Party Member – Zhang Chenglin (Member of the College Discipline Inspection Commission, Secretary of the Fermentation Engineering Faculty Party Branch)

Comrade Zhang Chenglin has firm ideals and convictions, always stepping forward and taking the lead in tackling challenges. He has deeply engaged in industry-education integration, pioneered the "PACE" talent cultivation model, developed first-class courses, and obtained approval for a demonstration course under the Ministry of Education's "Tuojin Plan". He has bravely undertaken major scientific research tasks, presided over more than 30 projects, published over 20 papers, and won 4 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological awards. He has dedicated himself to guiding students to participate in scientific and technological competitions, with students winning over 30 awards, and has been named a university-level distinguished teacher. He is also enthusiastic about public welfare, having been recognized as an outstanding volunteer of the National Marine Museum, demonstrating the vanguard image of Communist Party members in the new era.

Outstanding Party Worker – Guo Yan (Member of the College Discipline Inspection Commission, Full-time Party Organizer, Secretary of the First Postgraduate Party Branch of Biology and Medicine in the First Student Community of Biotechnology)

As a full-time Party organizer, Comrade Guo Yan has focused on building a grassroots Party building work system with sound institutions and efficient operation, innovating the closed-loop mechanism of "task list + supervision and assessment", and creating distinctive Party building publicity platforms and branded activities. As the Party branch secretary, she adheres to leading scientific research and academic style construction through Party building, promoting the in-depth integration of Party building and professional work. She has previously won the title of university-level outstanding Party worker, obtained approval for the university-level full-time Party Organizer Navigation Station, and led her Party branch to win the third prize in the university-level "Creating the Best Party Day" outstanding activity competition.

Outstanding Party Worker – Liu Yihan (Secretary of the Applied Microbiology Faculty Party Branch of the College of Biotechnology, Team Leader of the Special Action "Strengthening the Nation" for "Double Leaders" Party Branch Secretaries in National Universities)

As the team leader of the special action "Strengthening the Nation" for "Double Leaders" faculty Party branch secretaries in national universities, Comrade Liu Yihan adheres to leading teaching and scientific research through Party building. He has led the Party branch to focus on the "stuck neck" problems in the bio-manufacturing field, developed more than 10 enzyme preparations with independent intellectual property rights, with the achievements reaching the international advanced level. Liu Yihan is a core member of the "National Huang Danian-style Faculty Team in Universities", and has won more than 10 awards including the Huo Yingdong Young Teacher Award and Tianjin Youth Science and Technology Award, interpreting the responsibility of in-depth integration of Party building and professional work with solid actions.



The honor of Advanced Grassroots Party Organization awarded to the College Party Committee, as well as the personal recognitions received by multiple comrades, are not only affirmations, but also a spur. Standing at the new starting point of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the College Party Committee will unite and lead all teachers and students to build on the momentum, continuously deepen the Party building work system, keep making breakthroughs in scientific and technological innovation and the journey of building a strong country in science and technology, and contribute more substantial and robust strength from the College of Biotechnology to the university's goal of building a multidisciplinary, distinctive, high-level research university.
