2025 Annual Academic Committee Meeting of the Key Laboratory of Industrial Fermentation Microbiology (Ministry of Education) & Tianjin Key Laboratory of Industrial Microbiology was Successfully Convened

On January 7, the 2025 Academic Committee Meeting of the Key Laboratory of Industrial Fermentation Microbiology of the Ministry of Education and Tianjin Key Laboratory of Industrial Microbiology was convened. 11 academic committee members from inside and outside the university, including Academician Sun Baoguo (Chinese Academy of Engineering, former President of Beijing Technology and Business University), Professor Li Yuezhong from State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology of Shandong University, Professor Lin Ying from School of Biological Sciences and Engineering of South China University of Technology, Professor Yuan Qipeng from College of Life Science and Technology of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Professor Jiang Zhengqiang from College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering of China Agricultural University, Professor Liu Long from School of Bioengineering of Jiangnan University, Researcher Zhang Dawei from Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Qiao Jianjun from School of Chemical Engineering and Technology of Tianjin University, Professor Ma Ting from College of Life Sciences of Nankai University, as well as Professor Zhong Cheng and Professor Xie Xixian from College of Biotechnology of Tianjin University of Science and Technology, attended the meeting via a hybrid of online and offline formats. Lu Fuping, Deputy Party Secretary and President of Tianjin University of Science and Technology, together with heads of the Science and Technology Department, the College of Biotechnology, the key laboratories and relevant faculty members, participated in the meeting, which was presided over by Si Chuanling, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Department.

At the meeting, Lu Fuping delivered a welcome speech, extending sincere gratitude to all experts for their long-term strong support for the construction of the key laboratories on behalf of the university. He introduced the development achievements the university has made under the guidance of the ‌Pioneer Plan‌, and expressed the hope that the experts would offer more valuable opinions and suggestions for the development of the laboratories.

Professor Xie Xixian, Director of the Key Laboratory, summarized and reported the 2025 annual work of the laboratory from aspects including the basic profile, research directions, scientific research achievements, talent introduction and cultivation, as well as opening-up and exchanges, and put forward the development goals for the next stage. Three young teachers, Professor Qin Huimin, Associate Professor Xia Menglei and Associate Professor Wu Xiaole, respectively delivered academic reports on their latest research achievements.

Experts of the academic committee including Academician Sun Baoguo carefully listened to the reports and affirmed the progress the key laboratory has made over the past year. The experts unanimously agreed that the key laboratory has carried out research closely around three directions: metabolic engineering and synthetic biology, industrial microbial process engineering, microbial flora fermentation and green manufacturing, with clear positioning, distinct characteristics and remarkable achievements. They suggested that the university further increase support for the laboratory's scientific research space and platform construction, strengthen the introduction and cultivation of leading talents, and give full play to the leading role of the key laboratory in discipline construction.
