As the celestial cycle turns and a new year dawns, on this auspicious occasion of bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new, the College of Biotechnology extends our sincere New Year greetings and warmest festive wishes to all faculty, staff and students who have dedicated themselves to teaching, research, management and service, to all retired colleagues who have long cared for and supported the college's development, to alumni at home and abroad, and to friends from all sectors of society!

Looking back on 2025, it has been a year of unity, dedication and remarkable achievements for our college. Under the strong leadership of the University Party Committee, all members of the bioengineering community have closely aligned with the strategic deployment of the "Top TUST", thoroughly advanced all key tasks, and consistently upheld the core philosophy of "demonstrating value through contribution and achieving development through service", composing a brand-new chapter in the high-quality development of the college's undertakings.

    This year, we have firmly upheld the Party's leadership, ensuring strong and robust guidance for our cause.

The College Party Committee has prioritized theoretical armament, thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and the plenary sessions of the 20th Central   Committee, continued to consolidate and expand the achievements of learning and education, and guided teachers and students to firmly uphold the "Two Establishments" and resolutely practice the "Two Upholds", striving to enhance the quality of Party building work. Our college has won numerous awards in various Party building evaluations: we secured first, second and third prizes in the university-level theoretical preaching competition, one third prize for the university-level high-quality "Micro Party Class", were approved as the university-level Party building benchmark college, two model Party branch cultivation units and the "Six-Good" retired Party branch, obtained 5 university-level grassroots Party building innovation project approvals, and won one second prize and two third prizes in the "Best Party Day" outstanding activity competition. The core role of Party building in guiding the development of our cause has become increasingly prominent.

    This year, we have focused on nurturing talents, promoting the quality and efficiency of personnel training.

 The "Undergraduate Foundation Strengthening" and "Postgraduate Education Excellence" initiatives have been steadily advanced, yielding fruitful results in education and teaching reform. Our college has successfully concluded 6 Tianjin municipal-level teaching reform projects, published 2 textbooks, had 1 course selected as a Tianjin emerging engineering project-based course, won a second prize in the municipal competition of the 5th National College Teachers' Teaching Innovation Competition, and had 1 case selected as a typical application scenario of "Artificial Intelligence + Higher Education" in Tianjin. Students have delivered outstanding performances in various competitions, winning 19 national awards including those from the 17th National Undergraduate Innovation Annual Conference and 73 provincial and ministerial awards. The influence of the "Peiyang Class" brand continues to expand, with the postgraduate admission rate of graduates reaching 58.6%. The integrated talent training system for bachelor, master and doctoral programs has been continuously improved: 2 students from the 2022 cohort were recommended for the integrated bachelor-master-doctoral program, 42 undergraduate students from the 2022 cohort obtained postgraduate recommendation qualifications, and 6 students were selected for the 2023 "Bachelor-Master-Doctor" talent training program. The initial employment rates of 2025 undergraduates and postgraduates reached 96.27% and 93.37% respectively, with 80 graduates admitted to renowned universities at home and abroad such as Tsinghua University, the University of Hong Kong and Fudan University, demonstrating remarkable talent cultivation outcomes.

    This year, we have prioritized both talent introduction and cultivation, achieving simultaneous improvement in the quantity and quality of our faculty team.

The "Excellent Teachers, Strong Teaching" action plan has been thoroughly implemented, with gratifying achievements in talent development. We have newly recruited 1 recipient of the National Excellent Youth Science Foundation project, cultivated 1 Shennong Young Talents of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and 1 Shandong Taishan Industrial Innovation Leading Talent, and added 1 Shanxi Provincial Key Scientific and Technological Innovation Talent Team. Our college was awarded the title of 2025 Advanced Collective of Tianjin University of Science and Technology, 2 teachers were named Excellent Teachers, 1 educator was named Excellent Educator, and 1 teacher was selected as the university's 2025 "Pioneer Figure". The continuous optimization of the faculty structure has injected strong impetus into the college's sustainable development.

    This year, we have bravely scaled new heights, leading the way in scientific research and innovation.

The "Discipline Peak Climbing" initiative has been steadily advanced. Our college has intensified efforts to develop the priority discipline of Light Industry Technology and Engineering, the Tianjin first-class discipline, and the Tianjin key discipline of Pharmacy, continuously promoting the hierarchical and categorized development of disciplines. Light Industry Technology and Engineering and the first-level discipline of Bioengineering have been listed in the Soft Science Ranking of China's Best Disciplines for many consecutive years.

The "Scientific and Technological Climbing" initiative has delivered frequent exciting news, with the total research funding exceeding 100 million yuan once again. Our college has been approved for 10 National Natural Science Foundation projects, making new breakthroughs in key projects; we have signed more than 120 new enterprise and public institution commissioned projects, including 5 projects with funding over 10 million yuan, 1 project over 20 million yuan, and nearly 30 projects over 1 million yuan. Our scientific research achievements have won 4 provincial and ministerial awards including Tianjin Science and Technology Progress First Prize, Second Prize, Tianjin Patent Gold Award and Excellent Award, as well as 4 social force science and technology awards; we have published more than 200 high-level papers, obtained over 70 authorized invention patents and filed more than 90 patent applications; we have participated in formulating 2 international standards, 6 national standards and several group standards. At the same time, our college has focused on building a high-level academic exchange platform, creating a strong academic atmosphere, promoting the coordinated development of scientific research innovation and talent cultivation, and continuously expanding our industry influence.

Our college has continuously deepened the integration of industry and education, demonstrating our responsibility in serving society. We took the lead for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Biomedical Modern Industry College Alliance to hold the teaching reform and talent co-education seminar, organized the development seminar for the Future Technology College of Engineering Biology, promoting the integration of industry and education, and the integration of science and education; we cooperated with Tianjin Municipal Education Commission and Bloomage Bio to undertake the "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Emerging Engineering Project-Based Course Construction Demonstration Workshop", taking practical actions to promote the high-quality development of education and teaching, contributing to scientific and technological progress and industrial upgrading, and significantly improving our ability to transform achievements and serve society. Our college has successfully obtained the support of the 2025 Central and Local Co-construction Emerging Engineering Practice Base Construction Project, and was selected into the first batch of undergraduate innovation model laboratory construction list of Tianjin University of Science and Technology.

    This year, we have adhered to opening-up and cooperation, continuously expanding our international influence.

The "International Communication" initiative has achieved solid results, and the internationalization level of the faculty team has been steadily improved. We launched the 2025 Sri Lankan Bioengineering Full-English Class, actively responding to the national "Belt and Road" initiative and deepening international education cooperation. Our college successfully hosted the 7th International Conference on Applied Biotechnology, the 2025 7th Annual Meeting of the Chinese Brewing Discipline University Alliance and the 2025 Academic Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society of Microbiology Brewing Branch, invited experts and scholars such as American Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering Academician Roman Gonzalez and KU Leuven Professor Kevin Verstrepen for visits and exchanges, further enhancing our international reputation and influence.

The years are extraordinary, and new chapters are being written day by day. Looking back on 2025, every day of hard work shines brightly, and every harvest from diligent cultivation is particularly precious. This is a monument of time jointly forged by all members of the bioengineering community with wisdom and responsibility, and it is also the most solid foundation for us to move towards the future.

Our original aspiration is as bright as a torch, and our mission is firmly engraved in our hearts. Looking forward to 2026, the new journey is magnificent, and only through struggle can we achieve our dreams. Although the road ahead may have storms, it highlights the value of courage, and requires all members of the bioengineering community to maintain the spirit of "pioneering", the momentum of "innovation" and the style of "pragmatism", breaking through ourselves in progress and achieving transcendence in innovation.

In 2026, all members of the biotechnology community will carry forward the spiritual heritage of "Integrating Knowledge with Practice, Pursuing Perfection and Seeking Truth", demonstrate our responsibility in serving national strategies, pursue excellence in exploring the frontiers of science, stand at the forefront of the times, and jointly create new glories!
